On the way to Latvia’s centenary, we at Baltic Country Holidays have produced a new tour map inviting to travel along 7 routes of Latvia’s Statehood: the Baltic’s Road, the Freedom’s Road, the Mara’s Road, the Liv’s Road, the Daugava’s Road, the Jacob’s Road, the Light’s Road. The routes will allow you to learn about aspects of Latvia’s history, personalities, places and events that facilitated the establishment of the state and the emergence of its national identity.  

The publication includes a map with the 7 routes marked and briefly described, 80 attractions along the routes and 85 open farms that hold the sign Latvian Heritage.

The 7 Routes of Latvia’s Statehood have been developed within the programme for celebration of the centenary of Latvia as a state. The key message of the centenary celebration is „I am Latvia” focusing on people as the core value of the state. They shape today’s life in the country and, together with their young generation, they lay foundations for the future.

The map is available at the office of „Lauku ceļotājs”, 40 Kalnciema str. (3rd floor), Riga (week days at 09:00 – 17:00).

Three quality logos attest to their specific traditions and qualities: the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and the Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG).

 Here you will find information on how 6 countries cooperate to promote cheese as a reason for travelling - going on a cheese tasting tour in home country and abroad. Touring routes, information about cheese festivals, types and sorts of cheese and cheese producers in Canary islands, Malta, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Italy and Latvia.

Drinking maple and birch saps is old Latvian tradition. Though maple is introduced species, Latvians have discovered that its saps taste as good as birch, and it starts earlier. Usually saps start running with the first warm days when temperatures stay above zero and stop with the first green leaves. This year maple sap has started to run as early as mid February. At Ragāres farm they collect maple saps and bottle it for own use and for visitors willing to enjoy this seasonal treat.  Saps are collected by drilling a hole in the trunk some 30-40cm from the ground and using a tube to lead the sap into a container. Maple and birch saps are renowned for their detoxicating and curative properties. People drink it fresh and also fermented.


Зима – это тоже подходящее время для проведения выходных как в городах Латвии, так и на селе, а также на лоне природы. Поэтому мы, "Lauku ceļotājs", собрали несколько идей, куда отправиться и что делать в зимние месяцы в Латвии.
Перед тем как отправиться на мероприятие, необходимо ознакомиться со временем проведения мероприятия, порядком регистрации и посещения, оплатой и др. Во многих местах (кроме базарчиков, фестивалей) необходима предварительная запись.

Authentic ethnographic experiences are guaranteed to tourists in guest houses and open farms that are awarded with the “Latvian Heritage” sign. 19 rural tourism businesses joined the “LH” sign holder community on January 11 this year, on a regular “LH” award ceremony with participation of the Latvian Minister of Culture. Today over 70 keepers of Latvian national traditions in the countryside are prepared to show things, tell stories, offer Latvian foods, teach crafts and skills, and celebrate Latvian traditional festivities with their guests.

В таблицу включены те места, где дистанционные лыжные трассы находились в прошлые зимы. Перед отправлением на конкретную трассу желательно уточнить, есть ли снег в соответствующем регионе, подготовлены и открыты ли трассы в те или иные выходные. На платных трассах необходимо уточнить цены и информацию о других услугах. Также будем рады конструктивным предложениям и уточнениям. Не надо и забывать, что кататься на лыжах можно и в других подходящих местах, проложив свою лыжню.

Latvian Country Tourism Association "Lauku ceļotājs" has developed a brochure "Tasty Cheese Tour" (Gardā siera ceļš). The title "Sierzinis" is awarded to farms and manufacturing facilities that prove mastery in cheese making, can talk about the process with visitors, and offer samples for tasting or buying.  The title is also awarded to rural saloons, restaurants and other venues that offer locally made cheeses on their menus.
